Seton HS is a small high school just east of the downtown loop that serves students in grades 9-12.  Seton HS offers a wide range of courses where students must earn 26 credits to graduate.  Our general information phone is 816-581-4755 (option 3).

Seton Academy is part of Seton Center, Inc.  a non-profit service agency serving urban Kansas City.  Seton was first established as a small high school in 1995.  In 2000, Seton became Seton Alternative HS and operated under a contract with KCMSD to provide alternative educational services.  In March, 2009, KCMSD non-renewed all their alternative educational contracts.  Seton has been in transition since May, 2009 in developing its educational program and vision/mission.

Geographic Area Served:

Seton HS serves high school students in the urban core, inner city Kansas City MO.  Students must reside within the Kansas City Missouri School District boundaries.  Students residing within the Seton Center service area may have priority enrollment (approximately – 18th Street to 43rd Street, Brooklyn Avenue to the Big Blue River)

Facilities:

School is located at 2816 East 23rd Street as part of the Seton Center

Seton Academy has an agreement with Arts Tech (Truman and Holmes) to provide art services in the afternoons.

Seton Center is in the process of conducting an analysis to determine the feasibility of expansion – would provide the school with additional space

Food Service is provided by Cristo Rey of Kansas City – both breakfast and lunch are served at Seton Academy

7:30-8:25am          School opened, breakfast served

8:30-1:30pm          Academic courses (block schedule)

1:30-3:30pm          Afternoon art/vocal classes, student internships

 

Transportation

Students are provided a monthly METRO pass.

 

Assessment

Students will participate in the following formative and summative assessments.  Results of these assessments will assist the school in measuring academic achievement as well individual student ability.  Students will participate in the following assessments:

NWEA MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) given quarterly

Missouri EOC (End-of-Course) state assessments given in late spring

USA Test Prep – EOC diagnostic assessment given to determine academic interventions

All student data/personal information is protected and access to this data is restricted to Seton Academy staff.  Data will not be given to any outside agency or reported to any group or stakeholder group using identifiable data.

 

Teacher Qualifications:

Number of Administrators:  1    (certified as a school principal and superintendent in MO, KS, and IL)

Number of Teachers:  9               (all instructional staff are certified by DESE – 2 fine arts teachers have provisional certificates)

Certified Staff with Advanced Degrees:  1 Doctor of Education; 6 Master of Arts; 3 B.A. degrees with M.A. degrees in progress; 2 B.A. degrees
